FIRGELLI APPLICATION CALCULATOR
Solar Panel Actuator Calculator
This tool sizes the actuator for a hinged solar panel on a support frame. The frame supports the hinge, while the actuator controls the panel angle through a second attachment point.

How the tilting panel mechanism works
The moving panel rotates around a fixed hinge. The distance between the mounting pins changes as it opens, and the actuator leverage changes with the angle.
Use the design, matching and comparison options to evaluate the full movement. Enter your own dimensions and loads, and check mounting clearance at both ends of travel.
Measurements to gather
- Include the panel and moving support frame in the load.
- Measure the hinge-to-pin distance and fixed frame mount.
- Check the panel edges and cable slack at both travel limits.
Does this calculate the best solar angle for my location?
No. It evaluates actuator geometry for the opening angle you choose. Solar yield, site-specific wind loading and tracking controls require separate inputs or tools.
