Steam Soot Sucker Mechanism Explained: How Steam-Jet Ejectors Clean Boiler Tubes

This partial calculator evaluates throat area and a selected ideal-gas choked mass-flow estimate from entered gauge pressure, throat diameter, temperature, heat-capacity ratio and discharge coefficient. It does not predict entrainment, soot pickup, suction, diffuser recovery or safe operating performance.

Equation Used

A=pi d^2/4; P_abs=P_g+101325 Pa; m_dot_i=A P_abs sqrt(gamma/(R T)) [2/(gamma+1)]^((gamma+1)/(2(gamma-1))); m_dot_s=C_d m_dot_i.
Selected ideal-gas throat-flow arithmetic only; no entrainment, soot pickup, diffuser or safety prediction.
  • Gauge pressure, throat diameter, temperature, heat-capacity ratio and discharge coefficient are entered values.
  • One standard atmosphere is 101325 Pa and zero degrees C is 273.15 K.
  • The water-vapor specific gas constant is fixed at 461.5 J/(kg K).
  • The Mach-1 ideal-gas choking relationship is evaluated at the selected throat.
  • Real-steam state, losses, back pressure, entrainment, diffuser behavior, soot removal and safety are excluded.

The secondary figure is an abstract throat-flow ledger, not a soot-sucker design.

Selected choked-flow ledger

Gauge pressure is converted to absolute pressure using one standard atmosphere. The NASA choked-flow relationship at Mach 1 is evaluated with selected gamma, water-vapor specific gas constant 461.5 J/(kg K), throat area and absolute temperature. The selected discharge coefficient then scales the ideal result.

What the calculator determines

Use it to inspect the stated ideal-gas throat-flow arithmetic. It cannot size or rate a soot sucker.

Selected relationships

A=pi d^2/4; P_abs=P_g+101325 Pa; m_dot_i=A P_abs sqrt(gamma/(R T)) [2/(gamma+1)]^((gamma+1)/(2(gamma-1))); m_dot_s=C_d m_dot_i.

Selected-input example

At 8 bar gauge, 8 mm throat, 205 degrees C, selected gamma 1.30 and selected discharge coefficient 0.95, the ledger reports the throat area, absolute pressure and both ideal and coefficient-scaled mass-flow estimates.

Not an ejector-performance model

Real-steam properties, phase state, pressure losses, nozzle contour, upstream piping, back pressure, shock structure, entrainment, mixing, soot loading, diffuser recovery, erosion and safety are excluded.

Questions

Does this predict flue-gas draw?

No. The source multiplied motive flow by an entered entrainment ratio; that is not an independently predicted ejector result and has been removed.

Does a positive angle margin prove diffuser performance?

No. The source subtracted an entered angle from seven degrees without modeling the diffuser, so that output has been removed.

Is the result a steam-table calculation?

No. It is explicitly an ideal-gas estimate with selected gamma and discharge coefficient.
