FIRGELLI APPLICATION CALCULATOR

Pergola Louver Actuator Calculator

Open and close an entire pergola roof of linked louvers with one linear actuator. The actuator turns the first blade directly; a straight tie rod makes every other blade follow.

How the motorized pergola louvers work

Each roof blade rotates around a fixed shaft near its middle. A straight tie rod joins pins near the same end of all the blades. The actuator connects to the opposite end of the first blade, turning it and pulling the other blades through the rod.

The actuator is nearly horizontal in this example but changes angle slightly during opening. The animation follows the pin locations in the calculator; it is an illustrative mechanism, not a measured drawing of a particular pergola or a substitute for the manufacturer’s linkage dimensions.

Simple measurements to enter

Set the roof width, number of linked louvers and desired open angle. Place the moving actuator pin along the first blade and the fixed pin on the frame. Enter the combined torque needed to operate all the blades, including measured friction and the appropriate wind-load case. The actual pin-to-pin distances set the required stroke; the actuator’s changing leverage sets its force.

Choosing a pergola roof actuator

The example begins with a 6-inch Super Duty actuator where its rated force, stroke and full pin-length range fit. The Actuator matches tab compares other catalogue options. Check bracket strength, roof clearances, weather protection, limit settings and safe control of the complete linkage before ordering or installing an actuator.
