FIRGELLI APPLICATION CALCULATOR
ATV Dump Trailer Actuator Calculator
Design the electric lift for an ATV dump trailer or tilting wheelbarrow bucket. Enter the bucket geometry, cargo load and actuator mounts to see the entire tub tip from level to as much as 110°.
Start your calculation ↓How an ATV dump trailer actuator tilts the bucket
The trailer tub pivots at its rear hinge while the axle, off-road tires, chassis and drawbar stay fixed. A chassis-mounted linear actuator pushes on a pin beneath the bucket. The animation follows the complete bucket, not a small discharge flap.
The calculator checks force, pin-to-pin length and stroke across the entered tilt. A 6-inch Super Duty actuator is shown in the starting example, but the actual model and number of actuators must be checked against your measured load and mounts.
Measurements for a dump trailer lift mechanism
- Measure the rear hinge-to-front bucket length and the combined balance point of the empty tub and cargo.
- Weigh the bucket and the heaviest cargo you intend to tip; exclude the fixed trailer frame and wheel assembly.
- Measure the moving bucket pin and fixed chassis pin from the rear hinge, including vertical offsets.
- Enter the level and dump angles, with a maximum of 110° from horizontal, then check clearance and support at both ends.
Choosing an electric actuator for an ATV dump trailer
A stroke rating alone does not establish fit. Compare the actuator's retracted and extended pin lengths with the calculated range, then confirm force capacity through the whole motion. The two-actuator, 90 lbf example is a geometry demonstration, not a trailer payload rating.
Real cargo can shift as the bucket rises. Verify tailgate operation, positive stops, actuator synchronization, bracket strength, weather protection, duty cycle and unused stroke with the exact trailer before construction.
