A spline joint transmits torque through simultaneous engagement of equally spaced external teeth and mating internal spaces. This calculator is a selected equal-share force ledger: it converts unit torque to total pitch-circle tangential force, then divides that force by an entered effective-share count. It is not a spline capacity calculation.
Mechanical Spline · Selected Equal-Share Force Ledger
Explore a disclosed equal-share force proxy at a selected spline pitch diameter.
Equation Used
- Applied torque is represented only by tangential force at the selected pitch radius.
- The entered nη is a selected effective-share count, not a predicted physical contact distribution.
- Force is divided equally among effective shares for this arithmetic ledger.
- Tooth geometry, engagement length, fit, stiffness, misalignment, material, stress, wear, lubrication, duty and safety are excluded.
Former capacity language is removed. The entered share percentage is an assumption, not a measured load-distribution factor.
Selected force-sharing proxy
At selected pitch diameter d, one newton-metre requires total tangential force 2000/d newtons when d is in millimetres. The entered share fraction η makes the selected effective-share count nη; equal force per effective share is the total divided by nη.
What this ledger is for
Use it to inspect the arithmetic consequence of an explicitly selected equal-sharing assumption. Do not use it to rate or select a spline.
Exact selected arithmetic
r=d/2; Ftotal per N·m=1000/r=2000/d; neff=nη; Fshare=Ftotal/neff; selected reduction factor=neff.
Selected-input example
At d=25 mm, n=8 and η=62.5%, neff=5. The total pitch-circle force is 80 N per N·m and the selected equal-share value is 16 N per N·m.
Not a strength or capacity model
Actual spline load distribution and capacity depend on tooth geometry, engagement length, fit, deviations, stiffness, misalignment, material, stress concentrations, wear, lubrication and duty. Those are not supplied here.
Questions
Does nη predict how many teeth really carry load?
No. It is a selected scalar assumption only.
Why is capacity ratio removed?
Force division alone does not establish tooth stress or joint torque capacity.
