Leader Injector: Historic Double-Tube Sequence

← Back to Engineering Library

The Leader injector viewer follows the three-stage hand-lever sequence described by Hiscox: steam admission to lifting nozzle A, opening force valve b, then closing the overflow to the lift and force tubes.

Leader Injector Historic Sequence Viewer

Select one of three documented sequence stages. The undimensioned section highlights the lifting nozzle, force valve, overflow and two tube paths without predicting performance or providing operating instructions.

stage index n=1..3; sequence position=(n-1)/2 times 100 percent
This is a qualitative sequence viewer. The stage index orders relationships stated by Hiscox; it is not a thermodynamic, sizing or operating model.
  • The drawing is a simplified, undimensioned section rather than a manufacturing drawing.
  • Stage 1 represents steam admitted to lifting nozzle A with the overflow initially open.
  • Stage 2 represents the first handle movement opening force valve b.
  • Stage 3 represents further handle movement closing the overflow to the lift and force tubes.
  • No cone dimensions, pressures, temperatures, capacities, tolerances or operating limits are inferred.
  • Boiler operation, installation, adjustment, maintenance, repair and safety guidance are excluded.

Shows the historic three-stage sequence without estimating capacity, dimensions or pressure performance.

Hiscox's three-step Leader sequence

Mechanical Movements, Powers, Devices and Appliances, Vol. II, item 386 identifies the Leader injector as a double-tube arrangement. It states that steam is first admitted to lifting nozzle A while the overflow is open.

The first movement of the hand lever opens force valve b. Further movement closes the overflow to the lift and force tubes. The animation makes those stated relationships visible without adding dimensions or an inferred performance law.

A historic boiler-feed principle, not a selection guide

The cited source presents the Leader as a steam injector for boiler feedwater. This page illustrates only the documented internal sequence.

It does not select an injector, establish compatibility with a boiler, or provide a startup, adjustment or repair procedure.

Stage sequence, not a performance equation

n=1..3; sequence position=(n-1)/2 times 100 percent

The cited source provides no Leader test curve, capacity, throat size or pressure relation, so the viewer does not calculate those values.

How to read the section

At stage 1, steam admission to lifting nozzle A, the water path and the initially open overflow are highlighted. Stage 2 adds the force path as valve b opens. Stage 3 shows the overflow closed after further handle movement.

Limits of the historical source

Do not use this viewer to infer a 60-80 gallon-per-hour rating, a 4 mm steam throat, a Leader 9 designation, a fixed delivery allowance or area-times-square-root-pressure scaling; the cited material includes no Leader catalogue or test map for those values.

Injector performance depends on detailed geometry and thermodynamic conditions. It cannot be recovered from the qualitative historical description used here.

Leader injector questions

Does this calculate feedwater capacity?

No.

Are the displayed passages dimensioned?

No; the drawing is schematic.

What does stage 3 mean?

It represents the further handle movement that Hiscox says closes the overflow to the lift and force tubes.

Does this provide boiler operating or repair advice?

No.
