TVL-170 Set Up Guide and Information

FIRGELLI TVL-180 TV Lift with screen mounted

A Firgelli TV-Lift system is one of the most convenient and versatile automation units for your home. All TVL systems come with a full kit with a AC/DC power supply and integrated control box (plus controllers) all included. In this article, we will walk through the setup and installation of your TVL-170 System - for our setup article for the TVL-180 Floor-Mount TV Lift, please click here.

Let’s define some terminology: Stroke, Pocket and some of the unit component parts.

  • The Stroke is the distance the column will move.
  • The Pocket is the space the retracted actuator occupies. On TVLs, the TV moves fully in and out of the “pocket”, where it is stowed and hidden from view. You can also consider this “dead space” near the actuator that must be left unobstructed to allow the system full motion.
  • The Column is the actuator itself, or the 'lifting column'; the rubber feet are at the base and the column telescopes upwards to produce vertical motion.
  • TV Mounting Wedge - The triangular bracket attached to the Top of your TVL column has mounting holes on the wide side; the TV Mounting Bracket Assembly attaches to these holes.
  • TV Mounting Bracket Assembly - TVL-170’s come with 2 lengths of TV mounting bars that mount to the TV Mounting Wedge (on the column). The TV Mounting Brackets connect to the mounting holes on the back of your TV, then slide onto the Horizontal Mounting Bars; then can be tightened with provided set screws.

Now that the appropriate lift has been selected; determine your required stroke length. The vertical dimension of your TV is the minimum stroke requirement to make your TV fully emerge from the pocket.

Next; you need to know if your TV should be mounted above, below, or flush with the top of the Actuator Column. This will depend on how you’re using the TV lift - if your cabinet uses a hinged-lid and the TVL roller bearing, the TV should be slightly below flush; if the lid is fixed to the column (moving with) the TV, you may have more pocket space to work with. There should be no obstructions to the stroke motion.

Once we have our measurements logged, the TV Mounting Bracket Assembled and placed properly, we can plug everything in!

FIRGELLI TVL-180 TV Lift Components

On the TVL-170, the Junction Box has a built-in RF receiver; you may also plug the IR Receiver Puck into the Junction Box. The DIN Pin and Tamaya Connectors should all be connected according to the instruction manual; then we’re ready to plug in the AC power cord.

Your wireless remotes should automatically pair with the Control box. If it does not already interface, you can pair the remotes by holding the blue “SET” switch on your Wired Controller to the ‘Set’ side, and pressing a button on your RF RC. The IR Receiver Puck’s LED will blink when you press a button on the IR RC. If the remotes are not pairing, try replacing the batteries.

Now your TV is mounted and the lift is connected. If you have a non-restircted motion, you’re almost done! We can finish up with TVL settings - first, the Memory Position. Settings are adjusted and programmed with the “M” button on your Remotes, though you can also use the Wired Controller. For that, you will hold the “SET” switch rather than pressing the “M” buttons in the instructions below, otherwise the process is the same.

To set a memory height, move the lift to your standard viewing position. Once the desired height has been reached, press and hold the “M” button until the Control Box beeps 3 times. This confirms the desired height is saved to memory. Click “M” or "SET" and the FA-TVL-170 will automatically travel to the memorized height. This automatic (or ‘sustaining’) travel will only happen when the lift is moving towards the memory position; you will still need to hold a direction button to stow the TV.

If your TV Lift needs to be limited in motion, you will need to adjust the limit switches. To set the programmable limit switches; move your TV lift to the desired limit position (the lift will not move beyond this point); once there, hold the “SET” switch and the direction button (“up” to set the Top-of-stroke Limit, “down” for the Bottom-of-stroke Limit) for 3 seconds. Your lift will beep to acknowledge the programming - One beep means the Limit has been saved, your lift will now only move between the programmed limits. Two beeps means it has been disabled, and your lift will move freely through its entire physical motion.

Tech Support TV System Notes:

  • This system does not have a “reset” routine or function; nor should it need one
  • Your Wired Controller Box is the back up control for the system and should always work to control the system. If the wired controller does not work, start with disabling the programmable limits and trying again. If your lift will not respond to your Wired Controller, call tech support to start troubleshooting.

You have now assembled, connected, adjusted and programmed your TVL-170. You're all set, and the last step is to enjoy the convenience!
